Procter visits the Broncos
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on May 18, 2010 3:04 PM ET

Just one day after his release from the Cowboys, guard/center Cory Procter is taking a visit to Denver, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Broncos have been looking for interior line help this offseason, and Procter has plenty of experience as a four-year veteran.

Schefter writes that multiple teams have contacted Procter. (Translation: You better sign him fast Denver.)

I have no idea if he can play, but we could sure use some more competition at C at the very least.

The Broncos knew soon after the end of last season they wanted a new center, but it has taken months to find him.

The search continued today when the team hosted free agent Cory Procter for a visit at Dove Valley. Procter was released by the Cowboys on Monday to help free up a spot on their roster.

Procter, 27, has started 13 games in his five years in the NFL, including 11 games in 2008. He was active for 12 games last year, but played little as the backup to Andre Gurode.

Still, that's more experience than the two players who have been splitting time at center during this week's first passing camp. Dustin Fry is a second year player who was active for four games in 2007. J.D. Walton is a rookie third-round draft pick from Baylor. Versatile veteran Russ Hochstein is another candidate to snap the ball, but he is recovering from offseason knee surgery and won't participate in practices until training camp.

Center is not the only unsettled position on the offensive line. Rosters were necessary to identify most of the players in the first-string unit during this week's passing camp.

Only right guard Chris Kuper was in his regular position and familiar jersey number on Monday. Third-year player Tyler Polumbus was the first-string left tackle, replacing Ryan Clady, but Polumbus has switched to jersey No. 77. Second-year player Seth Olsen, who was active for three games in 2009, was at left guard. Fry was at center (wearing Casey Wiegmann's No. 62), and rookie second-round pick Zane Beadles was at right tackle, replacing starter Ryan Harris, who hopes to return to practice in June.

Looks like we signed him. He could very well be our starting center this season.

D.J. and Jamal report.

Veteran linebacker D.J. Williams and nose tackle Jamal Williams reported to Dove Valley for Tuesday's practices.

They were no-shows Monday, the first day of the three-day passing camp.

It was the first appearance at Dove Valley this spring for D.J. Williams, the second-longest tenured Bronco, behind cornerback Champ Bailey. Williams,

entering his seventh season here, did his offseason conditioning work in Miami.

Jamal Williams, signed as a free agent in March after he was released by San Diego, attended some of the Broncos' voluntary conditioning program earlier this spring.

Good signing for the Broncos IMO. The Cowboy fans I've talked to said he is solid at best but that could be good enough to start for Denver this year.

The Broncos have not signed Procter.

To clarify: The Broncos have NOT signed center Cory Procter, but he has visited Dove Valley.

They sure did - their title, until they changed it was "Broncos add Procter"
