I like this, adds some definate depth to the LB corp. He's had some success with the dolphins. Not too many FA LB's out there right now.

Akin Ayodele bides his time
Posted by Mike Florio on April 19, 2010 3:41 PM ET

Veteran linebacker Akin Ayodele, who started 15 games for the Dolphins in 2009, remains an unrestricted free agent. He has visited the 49ers and the Lions, but we're told that he has been waiting to sign a new contract until after the draft.

Even with the Lions moving linebacker Ernie Sims, Ayodele apparently will be waiting to see what happens on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

As we understand it, Ayodele isn't being offered the kind of contract that would guarantee a spot on the final 53-man roster. So he's going to be inclined to join a team where he wouldn't be expendable.

Ayodele entered the league as a third-round pick of the Jaguars in 2002. He spent two years with the Cowboys before joining Miami in 2008.

We probably offered him as good of a chance as anyone to make the roster.

I like the pick up. We lost a solid guy in Davis and replaced him with a solid guy in Ayodele. Ayodele is faster than Davis, too.

and younger. . .

i was pleasantly surprised with how stout davis was inside last year, but he clearly wore down badly as his play fell off significantly down the stretch. . .

Many mock drafters had the Broncos taking Alabama inside linebacker Rolando McClain with their first-round draft pick. McClain went to Oakland at No. 8, but the truth is the Broncos were looking at getting their inside linebacker in the second or third round, but they got away.

The Broncos have adjusted and have reached an agreement with free-agent inside linebacker Akin Ayodele, a ninth-year run stuffer who was the Miami Dolphins third-leading tackler with 71 last season. Ayodele will compete with Mario Haggan for the Broncos “Mike” linebacker spot in their 3-4 system. D.J. Williams will start at the “Will” inside backer position

Yeah, those early stats in Jacksonville were when he played WILL in the 4-3. He got to blitz and had little coverage responsibility. He also had a great MIKE in Peterson in his prime and the "Towers of Terror" in Henderson and Stroud in the middle.

Those were the days when Jax's defense was really good. He's a good run stopper though, and I'm glad we got him.

Frankly I do not recall him at all during his career, I will take your word on his viability.

Every one said we needed a ILB. I was not so sure.

If he works out then maybe he gets longer term contract next year. But we have a lot of young ones that perhaps can be taught UP.

Every Miami fan I know is glad the guy is gone, I don't think we got much of a gem here. Agressive against the run, horrible against the pass.
