View Full Version : Your Teams' Championships

Mr. Escobar's meaningless comments about the Phoenix Suns regular season play has got me thinking about the championships that my favorite teams have won. As he is a Cleveland Browns fan as well, I'm sure he can appreciate the 2 Broncos' championships. Most of us here will forever be thrilled about those. But what have your other teams won while you have been a fan?

I hafta say that I've been pretty fortunate that most of my rooting interests have won championships. They have definitely had their ups and downs, but most have at least 1 title to speak of. They are:

Kentucky Wildcats College Basketball...2 championships during the mid/late 1990s
Tennessee Vols College Football...1 championship in the late 1990s
San Antonio Spurs NBA Basketball...4 championships over the past 9 years
Toronto Blue Jays Baseball (I was a fan for @ 18 years bfeore they stopped trying)...2 championships in the early 1990s

My Leafs have yet to win since I became a fan. Same w/ the Mets since I switched over in 2003. The Vols baseball team has done well of late, but haven't gotten over the top. The Lady Vols have won a bunch, but I'm hardly a die hard when it comes to women's hoops.

Syracuse Orange NCAAB - Championship in 2003
New York Yankees MLB - 1996,1998, 1999, 2000 World Series Champs (Also lost the world series in 2001, and 2003) These are the championships that I've been alive for, and remember out of the 26 that they've won.
Penn State Nittany Lions NCAAF- Haven't witnessed a Penn State National Championship. But should've played for it in 1995, and won the Orange Bowl in 2006 capping a 12-1 season.
Denver Nuggets NBA - They just recently started making the playoffs
Colorado Avalanche NHL - Won the Stanley Cup their first year in Colorado (1996) and again in 2000.
Italy World Cup - Championship in 2006

Yeah, Penn State gets jobbed on a regular basis. JoePa has had 2 undefeated teams who didn't even get a sniff at the title. Bumpkus.

I put the titles I enjoyed in parenthasis.

NFL: Raiders - 3 (2)
MLB: Yankees - 26 (6)
NBA: Knicks - 2 (0)
NCAA Football: Michigan - 11 (1)
NCAA Basketball: UNLV - 1 (1) & UCSB - 0

La Liga: Seville FC - ?? Just started watching Spanish soccer a few years ago. I heard they won some cup recently but I have not figured out the structure yet. I also root for CA Osasuna only because they play for my birthplace.

Well I'm 26 years old, almost 27, and if I had to calculate all my favorite teams chamionships since I've actually been a "real" fan I would be able to say I've enjoyed a total of 6 championships. 7 if you count a personal accomplishment in 1997 when the Central Ealges of Pageland, SC went 14-1 and beat Barnwell to win the state championship. (I played WR and S)

Ottawa Senators: 0
Binghamton Senators: 0
Boston Red Sox: 2004 & 2007
Denver Broncos: 1997 & 1998
UNC basketball: 1993 & 2005
Georgia football: 0
Sixers: 0

However, if you count the back to back State Championships that my high school baseball team won during my junior and senior years...then I can add 2 more.

Is this the "bandwagon fan" thread?

If so, then I'll consider my "favorites" as well.

Besides my beloved broncos, "my" teams include the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Cowboys, KU Jayhawks, OU Sooners, Nebraska Cornhuskers.

That's well over 30 Championships all-together. I am obviously the best fan of all time.

I'm only putting down the championships that have been won since I've been a fan.

Denver Broncos - 2
Milwaukee Brewers - 0
Alonzo Mourning - 1*
Milwaukee Bucks - 0
Iowa Hawkeyes BBall/Football - 0
Georgia Tech BBall/Football - 0

*Note on Alonzo Mourning. He's not a team(duh), but my favorite team was whoever he was playing for. Now that he's pretty much done, I've looked around and decided to be a Milwaukee Bucks fan, which has been horrific.

Wasnt sure that counted and it was a tad before my time  although I did know about it - I didnt count Uconns NIT championship either -

And UCONN is the only college team to have the men and women win the championship in the same year :cheer2:

It was the 72-73 season in the WHA and they were the New England Whalers at the time.

Don't forget about the Browns in 2008 :salute:

And I've never witnessed any of my teams win it all. Well I have but I wasn't into sports as much. I was in like 4th grade when Denver won thier 1st Superbowl.
And I was in like 6th grade when the Yankees won thier last World Series.

I didn't really get into sports as much until 7th grade.

But Heres my best days as a sports fan:

Broncos ( AFC Championship game vs the Steelers. :salute: )
Yankees( Aaron Boones walk off HR -2003 and then thier WS in 2001)
Nuggets ( Beat the Spurs in game 1 :elefant: )
Avs ( umm idk  )

Then other teams I like:

Bulls (made it to the 2nd round)
Rockies (Made it to the world series)

So Pretty much since I've actually cared about sports my teams havn't done anything. I've always been fans of my teams but was just a fan that didn't know anything. I would wear a shirt and thats all.

I'm waiting for the day I can be a happy fan. :salute:

I think Miracle Max put it best when he said "...and thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?"

Nevertheless, here goes:

Major sports-
SD Chargers-Not in my lifetime, born in '64.
SD Padres-Twice to WS, no luck.
SD/LA Clippers-You're kidding, right?
SD Hockey-What's hockey?

Not so major sports-
SD Sockers-The San Diego Sockers were one of the most successful indoor soccer teams in the sport's short history. The team won ten championships in both the original Major Indoor Soccer League and the North American Soccer League.

Collegiate sports-
Went to a small NAIA school in southern California-nothing.

Rec Sports-
1978 UC Rowdies Soccer Club-County Cup Champions!!!

Thanks for the miserable trip down memory lane.
