We all know how Shanny thinks... he doesn't feel the need to satisfy our need of an elite runningback in the early rounds..... He always looks at the bargain rack to fill the RB roster spot.

This thread is to get an early start to 2009 since I highly doubt he will go with Jonathan Stewart or Reshard Mendenhall in 2008.:tsk:

So how about it Shanny! Chris Wells? Knowshon Moreno? James Davis?

Pretty Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

haha I was just thinking about making a thread like this, but I was going to wait until right after our 2nd round pick at the end of the month.

Moreno reminds me of Portis

He sort of reminds me of Walter Payton.

I wouldn't mind having another Davis in the backfield.

Yeah... very true... I think at least one will declare because it will be a very weak class and they would make more money coming out early than if they stay and wait the following year.

It will be interesting to see how Davis does this year without Richardson and McDuffie. As I was watching video of him, it became apparent to me that Richardson and McDuffie were a big part of his yards. Not saying Davis isnt good but there was some serious road-grating with those two linemen. A lot of yards on the left side or on the right side with McDuffie pulling.

I think Wells is the best of the three. I need to see more from Moreno.

I'd like to hold off this year with RB and grab one next year. Is there a site that I can go to to see next years potential prospects?

Lineman this year, and him next year please. I've liked this kid since he was a freshman.

I'm curious to see how Davis bounces back from shoulder surgery. He's out for the rest of the spring and probably won't have any contact till the season begins. If he shows it does'nt bother him and it does'nt effect his runnig style, i'll take Davis in a heartbeat ...

Wells will probably go top 5, and I doubt we'll even get a sniff at him. The others are fair game, though, especially Moreno, pending our draft status.

Well, that's if Moreno and Wells declare. I feel ya.

they probably will. . . it's not that common anymore for top backs to play their senior years-- they know what the attrition rate at the position is, and how much money they stand to lose. . . slaton came out this year despite not having a 1st day grade, and davis was going to come out-- i'm sure the only reason he changed his mind is the depth at RB this year, and the potential for him to earn a lot more cash next year. . . anything's possible, but i'll be surprised if wells and moreno don't come out. . .

i haven't seen enough of the other two to comment, but wells is solid-- i still think he could run harder, but he played through a lot of nagging injuries this year and was still effective, and he's got an excellent size/speed combo. . .

He better hit the protein shakes this season. Under 200 lbs is bad news for a NFL RB.

I think so too. One of the bigger reasons that Griffin never panned out is that he couldnt gain pounds to be in the 205 - 210 range.
That is one of the reasons Jones-Drew is so succesful imho.

you guys probably know by know that i don't follow college players until the draft is coming up; so how do these guys compare talent-wise with backs in this and last years draft?

if these guys were in this years draft would you rather have any of them over this years big 3?

Moreno will be a (RS) Sophomore next year making him draft eligible; just like Sidney Rice out of South Carolina was this past year.

I am NOT hip to going into the season with Travis Henry and Selvin Young as our RBs.

We will without doubt, draft a RB in this draft, maybe two.:salute:

I wonder if we'll draft our little running back "pet project" this year, or if we'll pick him Mike Bell-style after the draft. A little friendly competition never hurt...

xavier omon is the guy i want if we don't take a highly-touted back.

looking through combine results i stumbled upon this fellow:

Carl Stewart:
6'1" 230 lbs
4.69 40
30 reps of 225
39" vert (highest jump at the combine!)
11'2" broad jump!!

if we don't take a bruising FB, this guy is a great athlete who fits our tweener style at fullback, and he's not too slow to be productive in our system. he played fullback at auburn and was used in short yardage situations.

based on what i can find about him, i would love to bring this guy in and see what he can do in our system. he looks like he'll go in the 6th or 7th round.

i'm sure a lot of you guys know more about him and think i'm dumb for not, but when i have been looking at fbs, i have been looking at true-blocker types. do you think stewart has it in him to potentially make the transition to tailback?

It would be nice to have a feature back again. I don't see us drafting a RB in Rd. 1 next year though. We will have needs at both safety spots and probably a #2 WR.
