Ok, it has to be done. Time to go on the record with home many wins you think the Broncos will have. We'll wind up doing this a few more times before the season starts.

Our Opponents will be:
San Diego x 2
Kansas City x 2
Oakland x 2
Houston
Indianapolis
St. Louis
Seattle
Jets
Jacksonville
Tennessee
Arizona
San Francisco
Baltimore

5 to 6. I like to set the bar low.

Tned, I say 10-6 right now, lighter schedule...but too many variables in the mix, though I believe McDaniels will play whomever he feels will help them win. However, if Marshall leaves...I will have to say we win more, without...possibly less, not much less. But Marshall could be the difference between having a huge year or a mediocre year.

Right now, I would say between 7-11 wins. I chose 9 wins in the poll. If Marshall is back, then I think the offense will be a lot better than last year, with Orton having a year in the system, Moreno no longer being a rookie, and if Buck is healthy, he and Moreno could be a good team.

Still questions on the O-line, and if Marshall is gone, some big questions at receiver.

On defense, they probably won't be as dominate as they were in the early games of '09 (played over their head), but not as bad as they finished the season. If Ayers steps up and is ready to start, and we find an ILB to replace Davis, we should have a solid defense.

While the draft will be interesting, I don't think we can count on help in 2010 from the draft, so instead it will be if we get or lose anymore in free agency or trades.

The difference in wins and losses this year, will be how we address the offensive line to balance out our attack in order to keep defenses honest. If we can add a legitimate offensive weapon that can stretch the field (I mean a burner) to pull the safeties back then we have a real shot at being competitive on offense. Too many times last year defenses sat on the short intermediate routes and without a running game, our offense became too predictable.

Second we have to improve the depth on the defensive line. Although we nabbed 3 guys I am very happy with, (along with the majority of Broncos country) we still need some rotational players to contribute. If Ayers turns out to be a player (and I believe he will) then we could see some major improvements on the defensive side. It seemed towards the end of the year this past season the only guy who was getting to the QB was Elvis, and when he was double teamed, QB's feasted on our defense. Thats also why I would like to add a guy like McClain who is not only solid against the run but is an effective blitzer in the 3-4 scheme. It seems like we are settled on a nickel back in Nathan Jones which is good. Again, towards the end of the year we saw too many 3rd downs converted because of poor corner play. The Oakland game brings back nightmares.

Lastly we need a game breaker. I don't care if it's on offense, defense, or special teams. If we can find a guy who can take it to the house on offense every game, or a defensive guy who can take the ball away, or even a return specialist who can gain huge chinks of yardage, that will help all phases of the game (O,D,ST).

It seemed like last year we had ZERO playmakers. Yes, Brandon Marshall at times, but we never saw him consistently get down the field (doors open now Orton arm strength critics). On the defense, we had Elvis, but even he was spotty, not to take anything away from him, he's great, but if we can add a linebacker who hits like a ton of bricks with great instincts (stripping the ball, intercepting the pass, playing sideline to sideline) or a ballhawking free safety we will see immediate improvement. Maybe even a guy like McCluster who I think will be a great role player (RB, WR, RS).

No trades, I'd like to see a draft like this (3 rounds).
McClain
Ducasse
McCluster

Obviously this might change if Marshall is indeed traded. Because we would need another wideout. But addressing from the inside out is what successful teams do. i expect the Broncos to have another 2-4 picks when its all said and done (Scheffler, marshall). If we can make out with some players on the offensive line, a quality LB and a playmaker on offense/ST then this team has a real shot at 10 wins.

Without knowing the fate of Marshall, and what happens on draft day, it's pretty hard to predict an accurate number.....but since it's a pre-draft poll, I'll go with 8.

Agreed. Assuming we ultimately give away Marshall for less than he's worth (what can I say--we gave Cutler away for less than he was worth) I say 6 wins. If we keep Marshall or have a banner draft I'll revise my answer.

I say 8, for some reason I went with 10 on the poll. I'm just superbly excited for some Broncos football, even if it's a 6 win season.
