"MAJOR MOTIVATION: Late last season, defensive end Tim Crowder promised to refine his pass-rushing moves during offseason workouts.

He already has made it a point of emphasis, even before returning to Dove Valley for the team's strength program this week.

"That's one of the first things I've been doing, making sure my techniques stay polished and getting more polished on my techniques and getting my conditioning so I can go all four quarters," he said. "I feel like I got a little sluggish at the end. I'm not here to make excuses. The rookie wall hit me and hit me hard. And now I'm re-energized, ready to go."

In film study the past few months, Crowder noticed teams sliding protection schemes and sending a running back to double-team Elvis Dumervil on the other side, believing they could handle Crowder with a single blocker.

Crowder realizes it's imperative next season he's more of a threat from the other side.

"I take it as an insult," he said."

I believe this is the very itch that makes a player - a real player in the NFL. So far - so good for Crowder.

I think he will be starting lde. And i am with him, i would be insulted too. It is a great motivator even when one doesnt need one. I love players comming back pissed off. (in a good way)

Just hope he remembers that at training camp and in the pre-season and proves he's ready to be better. I like Crowder. I'd like to see him have an impact for the next 10 years. We have some talent on that D line if they all live up their potential. But remember, potential means you just haven't done it yet. I hope he lives up to his.

Right now I would say Crowder is closer to it than Moss because he actually got to play the entire season and he doesn't have worry about rehabing from an injury.

He definitely has the package to be dominant on a Trevor Pryce level, but even more cause hes faster. I like Crowder a lot, and it sure makes one feel good to hear that hes noticing the attention off Doomsdays side.:salute:

That's extra motivation for him to go out there and become a starter and start taking advantage of those one-on-one matchups. If he can stay healthy and step up his game that could leave Dumervil with some favorable chances to destroy the QB.

I think Moss will be a different player this year, as long as he's fully recovered. He's a playmaker on defense. He should start to get his sea-legs a bit this year.

i REALLY hope so. i'm still skeptical of the trade up for moss. he could have dropped to 21, if he didn't we could now have anthony spencer at DE, and have used the 3rd on someone like Aaron Rouse, Quinn Pitcock, or Paul Soliai, any one of whom would mean either our S or DT situation would have been much better this offseason.

moss better step up.

should be fun to see if the rest of our young DLs can catch up with him this year. . .

I love Crowder. I still wouldn't be mad if we drafted a DE like Merling or Harvey to team w/ Crowder on run downs and move inside on pass downs. 3rd down and 8 and we line up Elvis, Merling, Crowder and Moss to go after the QB...

I know it ain't happening, but I can still dream about it.

Building Off Rookie Season

Tim Crowder recorded four sacks as a rookie. DENVERBRONCOS.COM

By Kasey Byers
DenverBroncos.com

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- While spending his offseason in Austin, Texas, Tim Crowder reflected on what he learned in his first year as a Bronco.

Like any rookie, the first year is a learning experience. Better competition, longer season, but for Crowder the biggest lesson learned was understanding that the NFL is a business.

"I think college is much more physical on a day-to-day basis," Crowder said. "It's definitely more mental just the business side of it is more mental. Once you start learning the business side of it and how the organization works, it just makes everything better."

The Broncos drafted three defensive linemen last April in hopes of building a foundation for the future. Now that Crowder enters his second year, more pressure will be put on the former Texas Longhorn to contribute.

"I felt like a lot of us are very promising guys and we are all willing to work. It just showed me one thing; if they trust in us, are going to believe in us and they are going to ride the wave with us, that is a compliment to us and we have to raise the bar," Crowder said of last year's defensive rookies.

What I find refreshing is that a young player is motivated to do better by studying film........not by coming into a contract year.

Just one of the reasons why Tim was one of my favorite prospects last year. Go Timmy!

I agree. I know people love Dumervil, but imo Denver needs Moss and Crowder to become every down DE's, making Dumervil the best 3rd DE/pass rush specialist in the entire league (Yes, even better than Justin Tuck).

Most of all, I'm just glad Denver finally has some young DE's to get excited about (I would actually like to see them add another DE in the draft), hopefully Denver will soon have some DT's to get excited about......

He was a play-maker in college. I'm not sold on Moss being anything special in the NFL. I don't think play maker will ever be on his legacy list in the NFL. If he can just stay healthy, make plays, gain some weight, and be consistent, not great, he'll have a place in the rotation. I just don't see him being an every down player and being very effective against the run. He's a specialist and probably always be. That's too bad too, cause picking him where we did, he should be a play-maker. I just don't see him being anything special, but I do think he'll make some plays.

We need some DT's that can penetrate and make some plays in the back-field. I'm so glad that antiquated system of Bate's is gone. I think Thomas and even McKinley can be very effective if utilized right. You know that scheme had to hinder Thomas last year at times. You need DT's that can make plays and penetrate in the NFL. The game is so quick and these guys need to be causing disruption, not being space eaters and standing still so someone else can make the play every down.

You've come to that conclusion after what little we've seen so far, any particular reason?

He looked solid against the run to me, and he has the ability to be an excellent pass rusher......

He had about 12 tackles in 6 games and 1 sack. I remember him getting beat off the line and chasing people down to make tackles. When I watched him against the run I wasn't real thrilled. But, he was a rookie. I just haven't seen enough to convince me I guess. I still think he's undersized and needs to get a bit stronger to be an every down player, and maybe he will. I sure do hope so. We need him, Crowder, and Thomas to all have a huge year if we are going to win this year.

I think about the production Jacob Burney got out of players like Bertrand Berry and Reggie Hayward, I would hope he can develop a player with Jarvis Moss' ability......

But on one of those tackles he split a double team by the RT and TE and buried the RB for a loss against the Stealers......from the LE position! That impressed the sht out of me.

His sack was a nice play too, he beat the RT cleanly with quickness off the snap (Forcing the QB to roll left) and showed effort by chasing down the QB and forcing a fumble.

I'm not convinced of anything yet, either, but I do think that he has the ability to be an every down player and a playmaker......

He had 1 tackle against Pitt. I guess he made the most of it. I still hope he works out and becomes a force. Just hoping though....:-)

I'm just glad that Denver is FINALLY going into a season-not relying on a former Brown DL to make a huge impact on the DL. I know McKinley is on the team and he is fine, he's not expected to be a playmaker, just depth.

They finally have some DE's with actual NFL type of talent in Elvis, Crowder, and Moss to go along with the veteran presence of Ebenezer and Engleberger.

I am very happy with the young defensive guys we have and am looking forward to see what Crowder can do during a whole season. If he can remaing healthy I am sure he is going to surprise a lot of offenses.
