lame. the 12th...

it has come out on the 14th the last few years which is my birthday, that was always fun.

i HATE madden. i still play 07 for ps2 because of how bad they messed up the game on next gen consoles.

07 PC is one of the best versions of the game in my opinion. You can download updated Rosters as well so it's basically like playing 08 PC on the 07 disc.

Someone wake me when EA's monopoly on NFL licensed football video games is over.

It's time for something new.

Having no competition for the market has hurt the game. I refrained from buying Madden 2006 because NFL2K5 was the best football game ever made IMO. It was the only way I could protest the monopoly.

I have since bought madden '07 and '08 for the 360 and they just sit here and collect dust.

I usually buy a Madden every two or three years. Probably not gonna buy this one, though. The Broncos will probably get a bad rating... maybe in a year or two. NCAA has been more fun in recent years.

BTW, has the cover-athlete been revealed for this edition?

I'd buy Madden but I find that their game servers suck so bad it's not much fun to play online. They have never made any effort to fix the headset issue. What the hell fun is it if you can't even talk to the person you are playing against....Don't even get me started on Tiger Woods golf online. I like the games EA puts out but their fat cat attitude toward the online side of things really pisses me off.

That is because the Wii has the same graphics card as the gamecube, just at higher clock speeds.

On a side note, I had borrowed a buddies 360 over the weekend with Bioshock, Oblivion, the Orange Box, Halo 3, and DoA4, and I still played my Wii more than the 360. It should be said that I have the first 3 of those on the PC and they all play better on the PC.

Madden 09 is pretty good. Gameplay is more realistic, meaning it's not as easy to blow out the computer. I usually win by a good 40-50 points but I only beat the Raiders 24-12 in my first game. One thing I love about the Broncos in the game is that Marshall is a BEAST! He's unstoppable deep. They did make it tougher to run, which sucks because I am mostly a running player. Now keep in mind, I only have a PS2 so I don't know how the game is on 360 or PS3.

I'm fuggin tired... Stayed up til about 2:15, played a couple online games, beat the Giants and lost to the Steelers. Eddie Royal is fast, like 97 I believe, so he had a few long kickoff returns for me. I made him the #2 receiver too.

Champ is the man. Selvin is quick. Our O-line is average, same with the middle of the defense with Marcus Thomas and Webster being a little suspect.

They finally incorporated weather into online games-- my 1st two games were one in rain and one in snow.

That's all I've got for now, off to work damnit.

The madden cam on defense is weird, it kind of swivels around instead of just giving you the classic view. Kind of hard to get use to the angles.

What's Clady like?

I think he was a 78-79 overall, but I'm not 100%. I didn't get to check his breakdown out too much in depth-- I had the computer automatically reorder the depth chart at one point and it shifted Clady to right guard and Wiegman to LT... So I switched that back to Clady at LT. I need to check it out a little more to find out what kind of strength & Run Block/Pass Block skills they gave him. He's noticeably big even on Madden though.

Well, in Madden 08 it was pretty easy to advance the ratings of lineman, so hopefully, they've kept that.

I don't think Champ Bailey would appreciate being lined up on both sides of the ball. :D

You should be able to change players using the depth chart feature without having to switch their positions. I've done it on previous versions, and I do it all the time on NCAA...to get young players playing time and such.

Graphics are good, it's most noteable on defense because the madden cam sort of swivels and gives you different points of view. A little hard to get use to, but I'll bet it ends up adding to the game in the long run.

Still, nothing earth shattering in terms of graphics-- but definitely an improvement, at least it looks like a next-gen game this year.

sorry bout your luck, that really sucks.

Graphics are good, what you would expect from any next-gen console. I'm still trying to get used to gameplay. Last Madden I played was 2000 I think. Griese was the QB for the Broncos...so yeah it's been a while.

Went online and played one game and was down 0-14 in 2 minutes...so anyone looking to pad their stats can hit me up for a game...

OK...so I think its awesome.

Went through the Madden Test thing and one game...the Madden Test passing was cake and it labeled my skill level as All-Madden in the passing game...I proceeded to get completely owned by the CPU...rushing game was a little better, and my defense was OK, but I lost my first ever Madden 09 game. I think I'm going to have to step back the difficulty level for a game or two and get my bearings, because it is a little different than last year. Great graphics...so far a lot of fun.

Yeah, I'm starting to kill teams now that I'm used to it. One thing I don't like about Madden is that there isn't really a level that suits me. I usually play on Pro (because I'm not really that great) and win by 40-50 points a game but on All-Pro I hardly ever win. I just don't see how people beat the computer on All-Madden.

Ive played about 6 games already, and I dominate against the computer. This is the first Madden i've played on 360, but I was so good on PS2 that I figured it couldn't be much different. It's a little different, but not enough to do much against me. I only play on all madden and so far I'm undefeated (easily I might add). The last game alone that I played I beat the Saints 45-6. Had over 300 yards passing and 4 td's with Jay, no int's and 106 yards with Selvin and a TD. I love madden!

I have the same problem. Also, online I tend to beat people with a higher Win to loss ratio, but then I'll get killed by some damn 12 year old telling me what a B*tch I am for 4 quarters. I haven't played the new one online yet, but I hope they got rid of the thing where the quarterback drops back 30 yards and runs in circles and magically the reciever gets open. People that exploit glitches or quit make me want to punch my dog. I always try to play like its a real game (punting on 4th and long etc) and some people just don't care.

I got my first taste at Madden last night. The game is excellent. There have been many improvements made IMO. The graphics on the Xbox 360 are very Sharp. My 2nd game against the chargers was played in rain and you can actually see the players uniforms getting muddy/dirty as the game goes on. Im 2-0 going into the third game and Im finding that this version is definately harder to wallop the computer. Im only averaging a little over 13.0 points a game and Ive given up a total of 9 points through the Raiders and Chargers games. Royal is a beast already for me. With over 200 Yards recieving. Averaging almost 16.0 yards per punt return with a punt returned for a TD in that first game. Extremely hard to run for me though. Ive been Starting Torain over Selvin because he seems to be able to bust through the line of scrimmage a little easier. Selvin has more break away speed but Torain has the power to get through that line. I havent been doing too well in the passing game. Royal seems to be able to get open fairly consistently with his speed. Though Marshall is being double teamed quite a bit. One of the things I am enjoying most is the attention to stats. The on screen pops are constantly telling me how I am doing statisically which I find to be pretty cool. Overall, I am impressed. EA did good with this version...Thoughts?

I'd have to agree...I got totally schooled in the All-Madden passing. I took the test at the beginning and it determined my passing skills as All-Madden, because when one dude is rushing and only three are covering, that shit it like taking candy from a baby...against 11 guys its a little different. But I'm getting used to it.

My rushing game is OK...I'm struggling on defense, but I'm pulling an old Bronco trick...bend, but don't break...I've only allowed one touchdown so far in three games.

Sounds like you know what Im talking about then..I have YET to give up a Redzone TD. Only those 3 field goals. The broncos Run D is pretty decent. Robertson and Thomas are eating running backs up for breakfast. I went against two of the top RB's in the game In Mcfadden and Tomlinson and I have given up 132 rushing yards to those two games. So I think thats pretty decent. I have been playing alot of plays that put 8 men in the box. Seems to help quite a bit. Or Nickel 3-3-5 where you have the CB blitz.

Played the Packers preseason game when I went home for lunch. I got two scores before my offense even got on the field. Foxy and Bly both got pick-sixes off of Rodgers. They weren't player picks either, I was controlling D.J...so Rodgers must suck on the game...I didn't look at his player rating.

I ran the ball pretty effectively and had some decent pass plays. Once Hillis came in with the second team I found that running the inside handoff in the offset eye gashed the defense a lot.

Gotta play the preseason games...builds the ratings of your players. The easiest way to improve your team is training your o-lineman, imo...I think the drill for those guys is easy as hell...Clady will be an 85 probably at the end of the first season...

It's easy to improve the o-line...you line up like you were in the center position with the running back right behind you, two d-lineman and a linebacker...the running back always does a sweep, and it tells you which way he's going...you get the running back in the endzone a few times and lay out some pancake blocks and you'll earn your points.

I'm not exactly sure how to do it manually-- But the easiest way will be to just sign in online-- then select "Play Now" -- "Ranked Game" and it will match you up against another player-- once you're in the little team selection window it will automatically download the rosters and give you an option to save... Then you can just exit out of the team selection without actually playing the game (or you can play the game if you so choose)...

Sounds like we might be a decent matchup right now... I'm good against the computer, but am struggling with the Broncos offense online. The mediocre O-Line makes it really tough to get any sort of running game going.

Sounds like we might be a decent matchup right now... I'm good against the computer, but am struggling with the Broncos offense online. The mediocre O-Line makes it really tough to get any sort of running game going.
Yea, I haven't played Madden for a couple of years so I'm getting used to the new interface for picking plays, and of course the PS3 has like 10 more buttons than the old xbox controller, so there are more options to get used to.

I don't really like the new kicking meter, I bet it can be changed to classic, like the camera view. I'll mess around more this weekend.

Online on madden sucks. Too many cheesers.

I'm a strictly Franchise guy. I usually wait for a roster update, but the current roster is probably pretty accurate to the real roster. I've started my Franchise and made my trades.

Nothing too unrealistic though.

Yeah I know glitchers/cheesers were really bad a couple years ago but it seemed like they were virtually eliminated in last year's version... Plus, you can generally tell if a guy's legit or not by their record... I don't play anyone who's ridiculously good.

The computer is just too easy to beat IMO... Once you pick up the tendencies, it's game over. I don't know, maybe this year's AI will be better.

There's this stupid glitch where the ball is direct-snapped to a wide receiver, and people have been lining up in the four-wide with a running back at receiver and just destroying people with it. I guess its in the Tampa Bay playbook.

360 owners...quick question. Is this years much different from last years? I bought '08 but I played about 6 games and put it on the shelf.

I could give two shits about setting hot dog prices, I really want to know if there's any changes to game play.

I feel like the graphics are 10x better, imo. Franchise has seemed OK so far, nothing overly new or improved to it...though finances really aren't that important if you ask me. If you win in that game, you make money.

I just feel like its a better game...hard to describe, I guess, but I'm far from a hardcore maddenite.

I like it so far... but last year's ended up on a shelf for me too... I'm with MB... I think this is a definate improvement.

Not sure why... but if nothing else... even the repetitive commentators is better than the 'radio' feel they went for previously. :tsk:

Maybe it's your new TV that enhanced the graphics?

I'm far from a Maddenite too, but I miss a good football game. Thanks MB. If I can find a copy I might pick it up. I'd like to get NCAA too. I'm sure the Buffs are much improved.

My gamertag is slickdonkey7. Feel free to add me (anyone). I'm usually on a couple times a month. It'd be fun to BS with some of you on Live.

I've figured out the running game on this game. There are 3 things that can help you and I will list them in order of importance:

3) Spin move. When you find yourself ready to get tackled in the backfield before you've had a chance to move, use the spin move and it will 99% of the time shake the opposing defender.

2) Follow your Fullback. The Fullback will pave the best route for you to run. Just run wherever he runs and you will get a solid few yards.

1) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, know when to sprint. Don't sprin as soon as you get the ball or else you won't be able to get a burst when you need it. If you are running to the outside, THEN sprint immediately, or if you are cutting back, then sprint immediately. When you are trying to hit a hole in the inside, sprint just befre you're going to hit the hole, not when you just get the ball.

good madden players were doing this since the ps1 days. beware, that spin move will make you fumble. especially if you go against guys that know how to strip the ball.

4-1 in my Broncos Franchise with Custom Sliders from Operation Sports (= They are realistic sliders that the average player would struggle with).

My running game sucks, but Cutler is leading the league in QB Rating, Pass yards and Pass TD. Brandon Marshall is leading the league in Receptions, Receiving yards and Receiving TD's.

To help with your running, change up the snap count, and try not to shift the lineman too often. Also, run out of goalline on first down. It works like a charm. Just some pointers.

Just had a chance to look at mine. I was out of town last week when it arrived. The main game disc was loose rattling around and has circular scratches all over it. Will try it tonight, but am having Amazon replace it.
