Shanahan planning to take a quarterback at No. 4?

As Mike Shanahan re-builds the Washington Redskins, his single biggest decision will come on April 22, when he decides what to do with the fourth pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

A report out today suggests that Shanahan is likely to take a quarterback.

Jason Reid of the Washington Post, citing an unnamed league source familiar with Shanahan's thinking, reports that Shanahan is eager to draft and develop a young quarterback.

If Shanahan is planning to take a quarterback, the most likely pick would be Sam Bradford of Oklahoma, who is generally regarded as the best of the bunch -- provided his injured shoulder has healed. Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen would also be an option.

Of course, given that some draft experts don't believe any quarterbacks in this year's class are worthy of a Top 10 pick, Shanahan might want to keep Jason Campbell around and skip the quarterbacks in the first round.

That's the key decision for Shanahan in what's sure to be a busy off-season.

interesting....But some scouts do not believe any of these qbs are worthy of the top 10..

So they think that bradford and clausen are not as good prospects as Matt Stafford and Mark Sanchez from last year??? HHHmmmmm...

I am no scout but IMO bradford seems to be light years ahead of Sanchez and Clausen is too. Stafford I do not know about because I never really looked at him. But that seems weird to me.

If shannywere to go QB I think he would go clausen. He fits more the John/Jay mold.

I wouldnt be surprised. I dont Campbell is the kind of QB that Shanahan wants and i can see him going after Bradford.

If he does, it will be interesting to see who he picks if both Bradford and Clausen are still on the board.

Yeah, Mineaswell invision Bradford in the Redskins uniform!!

I don't think Clausen will be as good as he is hyped up to be!!

lets hope he does waste a #4 on a QB. that means better chance at getting a better player where we wind up.

Strangely enough im more impressed with Clausen than i am with Quinn but that doesnt necessarily mean anything.

He probably was not even thinking of drafting a QB, until he heard Pat say that the Broncos were going to draft a QB

"...citing an unnamed league source familiar with Shanahan's thinking,..."

Ok.. thats a first. FAMILIAR with his THINKING. Now we know thats credible!

That being said, I think he very much would be interested in a QB. Not many positions justify that #4 pick, and Clausen or Bradford both would be a solid pick.

Seeing Chris Samuels retiring changes the route Shanny will go, I'd be shocked if the Redskins skip on Russell Okung!!

But people have been expecting Samuels retirement for some time now. Its not really shocking.

I think it comes down to value. Meaning, ddoes the franchise/team/mike think that they can get the same value at QB in the 2-3-4th round as they can an OL? Also depends on what they are able to grab in FA. I doubt any stud LTs are available, but Shanahan ran a damn good OL for many years without having the premiere stud at LT.

I think teams can build their OL with guys in the 3-4th round much easier than you can grab QBs there.
