ENGLEWOOD, Colo -- The Broncos on Tuesday resignd tackle D Anthony Batiste to a future contract.

This is Batiste's second stint with the Broncos, after spending the last two weeks of the 2009 season on the team's practice squad.

Batiste has played in 12 games during his pro tenure, including eight outings last season with the Redskins.

The 6-foot-4, 314-pound tackle started the 2009 season with Washington and was inactive for the first four games before replacing Chris Samuels in the team’s game at Carolina during Week 5. He saw action in the team's next seven contests before being waived on Dec. 15.

Batiste, a four-year letterman at Louisiana-Lafayette, entered the NFL in 2006 as a college free agent with Dallas. He has started four games on the pro circuit.

Well at least after playing in WAS, he knows real blocking in a power run game. Maybe an OG candidate at 314 he is not near big enough to play OT.

314 is okay for T. you're not always going to get optimum size for your depth players. it's more important the guy can handle 1-2 games if needed than be 325+.

Like last year when we needed one for 6-8 games.

I'm looking for a baby Harris or Clady to step in if we need them. Not someone that can handle a few games a year.

I'm looking for excellence as back ups, because some where down the line we will need them again.

Accidents happen ask Larsen.

you don't ask for much do you? in my mind excellence is a quality usually fitting all-star players. hoping for that level of players in the team's second line is a pretty tall order.

unfortunately for the people who put together the broncos' roster they have to do these deals in reality. we all need to remember that.

That does not mean he will coming into this coming season now does it. and he was indeed a Higher drafted or thought of player than bapiste was. He was suppose to be lepsis replacement at OLT, but his value was down because of his back surgery at the time. More talent can get away with less weight. not to much less weight.

As we are now getting away from the ZBS. Anyone not clear on that?

If that is an absolute Josh is going to expect his players up front to be bigger, stronger than they were last year. so that may even mean Harris is a B/U this coming year or converted to guard.

Even when he was a starter this OLINE was not a MOVER and shaker on the ground as a power blocking team.

So is there any doubt in anyones mind that we are going to get BIGGER on the OLINE yet. Either by hitting the weight room or getting new players in.

BTW we all know that the weights listed on the web site are bogus. The only ones you can trust are those coming out of the combine.

Time will tell.

I was listening to some Senior Bowl reports the other day and they said one of the DL guys was listed at 375 and the other guy said, "No way, that guy is one biscuit short of 400."

That Belly button tattoo might just be the most homo-erotic thing I have ever seen. That's saying a lot considering I work in a porn shop.

That aside I really have to wonder if the guy can touch his own elbows.

On topic:

Considering how many games we played this season with a backup T I don't think a little bit of depth hurts.

Porn shop? Now THAT sounds interesting. Please start a thread in the Lounge post-haste.

Must have missed that. :salute:

We folks are really behind the OLINE curve, we have played the ZBS so long that many of Y'all do not realize 300 pound guys on the OLINE are mostly out weighed by as much as 60 80 pounds by their counter parts. In most cases by 25 50 IIRC about the only NT in the league under 325 is the guy from DAL and I suspect because he is sounded by the DE he has he can get away with it.

We do not YET have elite talent on the OLINE say for perhaps Clady and remember folks he was brought in because of his time playing ZBS in college. As good as he is he may not be able to transition to power run blocking.

we got bigger last year but we all saw IT did not do much in the redone were it counted.

Now was that because our Oline coach did not know his ass from his elbow about the power game (he was a LB after all) but only knew ZBS.Or were the players just not big/strong enough to brute strength the DL across the LOS.

I'm saying we will get atlas 15 pounds bigger across the board as average this summer on the Oline and I do not mean fat and sloppy but 15 pounds of muscle to get the job done.

If we do that we will still be about 10 pounds or so smaller than the better lines in the NFL and in some cases the best team in college.

ZBS is toast in DEN time to move on.

Ok you got it, I'll get on that here pretty quick.

EDIT: Forgive my ignorance, but how does one "Opt-in" for that section? As of now I cannot post in the lounge.

Click on "User CP" in the upper left corner.

Look at the menu bar on the left, underneath "Networking", click on Group Memberships.

I think it's self explanatory from there, but I haven't had to do it in a long time!
