Franchising a guy as an OLB saves big money over franchising them as a DE. "Converting" Doom to an OLB last year really saves us a lot of $$$ if we decide to franchise tag him. ;)

The Ravens did this to Terrell Suggs a couple of years ago and he was PISSED because it cost him several million!

The only numbers we'll possibly see are the franchise numbers.

Outside of that, we will tender the players as RFAs.

So, Marshall, Doom, Kuper, Scheff, Orton will all be tendered at different levels with the exception of one of them getting franchised non exclusively.

Tenders(IMO)

Marshall- 1st and third

Doom- 1st and third

Orton- 1st and third

Kuper- third

Scheffler- round he played in

I think Orton gets signed but possibly only two or three years.

Even though Doom lead the league in sacks, he is not worth big time money cause hes a liability in the run game. I cant see the Broncos signing him with a big contract thinking hes going to improve to be all around. Thats too much risk.

If they dont want to see him hit FAgency, then they may have to franchise him.

Question - what factors go in to coming up with these dollar amounts?

Franchise tags are the average salary of the top 5 (or 3, I just can't remember) paid players at that position.

I think it's average of the top five salaries.

Thanks - another question - what does transition mean, and how is that figure determined?

Franchise = (top 5 players salaries avg)

Transition = (top 10 players salaries avg)

(OR if he is already high priced like Peppers, he gets a 20% raise from previous year)

Thanks Chops I was wondering what the terms meant.
