Percy Harvin wins the offensive rookie of the year award (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/06/percy-harvin-wins-the-offensive-rookie-of-the-year-award/)

To little surprise, Vikings receiver and kick returner Percy Harvin (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5197) has been named the Associated Press offensive rookie of the year (http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/80780212.html?elr=KArksLckD8EQDUoaEyqyP4O:DW3ckUiD 3aPc:_Yyc:aUac8HEaDiaMDCinchO7DU).

Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Harvin picked up 41 of 50 votes. Six votes went to Ravens tackle Michael Oher (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5182).

The other three votes were shared by Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5169), Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5163), and Steelers receiver Mike Wallace (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5329).

Somewhat surprisingly, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5192) received none.

Harvin has battled a shoulder injury and a series of migraine headaches during his first NFL season. He finished the year with 60 catches for 790 yards and six touchdowns, and he returned two kickoffs for scores.

With 135 yards rushing, Harvin broke the franchise's single-season record for all-purpose yards, with 2,081.

Asked earlier in the week about the possibility of winning the award, Harvin expressed the kind of maturity that many rookies don't possess. "I've always said since the beginning of the year to win that award and not win the championship is a failure," Harvin told the Star Tribune.

It's been a good few days for Harvins. On Monday, he was added to the Pro Bowl roster as a kick returner.

He's the sixth Vikings player to win the award, joining Adrian Peterson (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=2491), Randy Moss (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=1655), Sammy White, Chuck Foreman, and Paul Flatley.

And now Harvin is hoping to be the first of those seven men to couple that award with a Super Bowl title.

They don't make a movie about him and Oher gets 0 votes.

That's pretty cynical. The general public may not have known his story but I'm pretty sure he was on most of the press's radar. The guys a beast and deserves all the recognition he can get.

I'd like to know who voted for Moreno so I could ask them why they gave him their vote.

I agree. He definately deserved winning. He stood out more than any of the other rookies this year.

I am surprised though that Houston's LB Brian Cushing didn't get at least 1 vote. That kid had a great year. He didn't deserve to win it, just sayin'.

I tend to agree with you there. And no I'm not being cynical. Him getting a vote but Cushing not is crazy.

Cushing just dominated. Man, i called that. All the LBs outta USC last year played incredible their rookie years. Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda. Oh well.

Oher also should of had waay more votes. He played LT AND! RT throughout the year. And he played fantastic. OL never get the props they deserve.
Also Hakeem Nicks was really productive too.

Ravage!!!

He won the RDOY.. didn't he?

**edit*...oooops.. I see I didn't scroll far enough to see that was already stated.

Yeah, you could tell during the combine that Cushing WANTS to play ball and proved this year that he CAN play ball.

I think 974 yards was a pretty good reason. However, I agree with your
implication that other rookies were more deserving. I think Cushing should have
won the honor outright . . .

HMMmmmm..............wonder who gave Moreno their vote.

Hint: Starts with M, continues through cC, and ends with D.

Yeah, I don't think it was a bad season by any stretch... But it also wasn't worthy of any post season awards, IMO.

So maybe it was Lindsay Jones or something.

Wasn't even the best rookie RB... Wells just didn't get nearly as many carries, but averaged 4.5yds/carry and still had as many TDs and far more big plays while splitting significant time with a veteran RB. He's going to be really special... unbelievable breaking tackles and great nose in the red zone. He was on a more explosive offense, but I can tell you 100% he broke more tackles than any rookie RB in the league and that has nothing to do with anything other than his own ability... plus wow, wicked damn stiff arm.

Yeah, Knowshon's YPC worry me a bit. I kind of agree with the school of thought that another back probably could have done more with the same amount of carries he got... But I will at least give him credit for staying healthy enough to play in all 16 games. That's gotta count for something. I think Beanie would have been the first back off the board if he didn't have so many injury concerns.

Or if he didn't cancel his flight to Denver to meet with Mcd right before the draft, LOL!

exactly-- wells has a chance to be special IF he holds up, which IMO is very much in question after the slew of injuries he slogged through in college. . . also, there were some whispers in the columbus area about his long term committment to football-- i actually met one of the guy's cousins in a class that i took down there shortly before the draft, and he told me that chris was already looking forward to a career in broadcasting, and not to be surprised if he decides to hang it up before his body gets beat to the point that he can't play anymore. . .

the latter part is speculation, of course, but the injury concerns are well-documented, and IMO were enough of a red flag to steer clear of him at #12. . . he went about where he should have, and good for AZ if it works out. . .
