The Broncos have worked out a resolution that will keep Dre Bly with the team through 2008.

Bly had a $9 million option bonus on his contract, so some finagling was necessary. The team is also working on a potential long-term deal with safety Hamza Abdullah, a restricted free agent.

The Broncos are still hoping to re-sign K Jason Elam with nine days to go before the start of free agency.

Elam's agent believes something can be worked out before he hits the open market, where the 37-year-old would likely be the most sought after kicker.

I hope we keep bly longer than that. Maybe they are going to see how this year goes before offering him like a 4 year deal.

Long term deal and Hamza Abdullah should not be in the same sentence...unless it's to discuss how it should not be in the same sentence.

Thanks for the post.

I say we just keep about 12-15 players and start all over again.

I think this is a good idea except the hamza abdullah part. If he becomes our main safety I think I'll be sick.

Abdullah hasn't been in the league long at all and he played pretty good at times.... You guys give up on players too soon.

Abdullah had a pretty typical roller coaster season for a part time player to starter. Did some very good things and some not so good things.
He can develop further, and is certainly going to come cheaper than any outside FA's.
So, why not.. Think of this way, the more in house Safties we keep in fold, the less likely we end up with Greg Wesley....

Good, then we can get rid of Bly after the 2008 season.
