» Anyone here seriously concerned about our MLB?

May 07, 2013 - 12:08 PM - by Zweems56
I was big on Irving when we first picked him up, but he obviously hasn't lived up to expectations. I feel like there's been a distinct lack of conversation about the heart of our defense that doesn't exist. So Brooking is gone, DJ is gone, and Mays is going to get cut. I was hoping that we'd pick up a new MLB in the draft for me to gush over (in the later rounds, not Teo), but that didn't happen either. What are we doing about this, kids? Are we actually leaving our trust in Predator Jr. and Johnson? Or was Bradley picked up believing that he'd be able to start? Someone make me feel better about this

» Who would you trust to win a single game THIS season?

May 06, 2013 - 10:15 PM - by sneakers
If Peyton was out for some reason, who would give the broncos a better chance to win a key divisional game down the stretch

Brockembe Osweiler

OR....or

Tim Tebow

If your answer is Tebow, why not sign him as a back up? After all we are trying to win games THIS year (not 5 years down the road).

Red Miller.

A guy that is confident in himself enough to be arrogant is a B grade player.

What we needed were guys that were beyond that.

Why were we in the superbowl?

We did not have grade B guys, we had men that wanted more.

They pushed themselves, it was them.....not me.

But I loved every moment watching them.

» Miller: Broncos a 'Way Better Team' Than Last Year

May 03, 2013 - 4:29 PM - by Denver Native (Carol)
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil were more than just teammates the last two years; as Miller noted, "We were brothers off the field."

They were so close that they communicated every day between the fax faux pas that led to Dumervil's release and his decision to sign with Baltimore. Miller even went to Dumervil's Miami home upon returning from a USO trip to Afghanistan to talk with his teammate.

When Dumervil left, it seemed that no Bronco would feel Dumervil's loss like Miller. Without a Pro Bowl pass rusher on the opposite side, Miller will be an even tighter focal point of foes' blocking schemes. Yet Miller isn't concerned at all.

"I feel like we have a way better team than we had last year," he said.

» Broncos' Von Miller draws inspiration from J.J. Watt

May 02, 2013 - 4:59 PM - by Denver Native (Carol)
As the defending NFL Defensive Player of the Year runner-up, Von Miller came away from his offseason USO Tour to Afghanistan not jealous of the guy who beat him out but impressed.

J.J. Watt received 49 votes for the top defensive honor in 2012. Miller was hardly a close second with one vote.

Watt, the Houston Texans' star defensive tackle, and Miller, the Broncos' superb pass-rushing linebacker, were together during Super Bowl week in New Orleans and then to honor the U.S. military overseas.

» Broncos part ways with front office executive Keith Kidd

May 02, 2013 - 3:52 PM - by Magnificent Seven
And so it was this week for Broncos director of pro personnel Keith Kidd, who was informed his contract would not be renewed.

The team confirmed the move.

Kidd had been hired for the position before the 2009 season by Josh McDaniels, who as head coach had final say on all personnel matters.

It has not yet been determined how the Broncos will fill Kidd's position. What is clear is John Elway, the team's executive vice president of football operations, continues to shape the Broncos' front office in his own vision.

» Jacob Tamme glad to see Wes Welker joining Broncos' receiving corps

May 02, 2013 - 3:25 PM - by Denver Native (Carol)
If people weren't aware Jacob Tamme was a team-first player before, they should now.

Tamme was the Broncos' third-leading receiver last season from the "move" tight end position. His 52 catches for 555 yards trailed only the Broncos' standout receiving duo of Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker.

But Tamme doesn't figure to put up those kind of stats this season after the Broncos signed slot receiver Wes Welker back in March. Welker averaged 112 receptions his previous six seasons in New England, and the expectation is the Broncos will run more three-receiver sets with Welker than two-tight end sets with Tamme.

» Who is that guy?

May 02, 2013 - 1:05 PM - by Superchop 7
Mark my words.....for those attending training camp next year.....you are going to be hearing alot of "who's that guy?".

That guy is Zac Dysert

I did not break down alot of tape at the QB position this year, absolutely zero on Dysert, BUT today I have......and oh....what a resume.

Holy Christ can this kid play!

My only knock on him is he has to know when to throw it away, easily fixed.

I'm telling you, this kid can throw into an NFL window, he is that accurate.

Is he better than Brock ?

It's not even close.

Release.....very good

Accuracy.....excellent

Mobility......good

Gamer.....yes.

Escapability.....good

Keeps eyes downfield.....very good.

Poise......very good.

Throw off back foot with accuracy.....very good.

Footwork....average.

If the Broncos thought they were filling a need for a number 3 QB, they screwed up, this kid is nobodies number 3.

Excellent job Broncos.

» Grading the Broncos 2010 Draft Class

May 02, 2013 - 8:53 AM - by UnderArmour
Grading the current draft class is always useless because players have to actually play before you know what you have. Now that 3 years have passed, it is fair to grade the 2010 draft class for their actual on-the-field contributions. So here are my my grades for the Broncos 2010 draft class. Critique and write your own.

Maneuvering:
Grade: A
McDaniels/Xanders masterfully moved around the draft board acquiring picks and taking productive players.

1) WR: Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech
Grade: A
He has developed into a pro bowl player and a big-time receiving option. Grade will become A+ after he has a season where he is dominating games on his own. He did struggle with injuries early on, but the front office could not have picked a better guy to step in for Brandon Marshall. Rare combination of size and speed. Pro Bowl player.

1) QB: Tim Tebow, Florida
Grade: B+
Though he was later traded off for a 4th, he led the team to a 6 game winning streak and helped lead the team to one of its only victories during a miserable 4-12 season. He cannot throw the football effectively, but smart decision making and not turning the football over combined with his abilities as a runner and playmaking in clutch situations puts his grade at a B+. With Tebow in the backfield, the Broncos led the league in rushes and miracles. Also factored into this grade is the fact we received a 4th round pick after we upgraded to Manning.

2) Guard: Zane Beadles, Utah
Grade: A-
Pro Bowl player. Granted, it was because of Manning's popularity running off on him, but he has developed into a solid starter and has been a solid part of an elite pass-blocking line. Could not ask for much more out of a 2nd rounder.

3) Center: J.D. Walton, Baylor
Grade: B-
Has struggled at times, but the 3rd round is where you find guys to step on the field... [Read More]

» To all Bronco Players

May 01, 2013 - 5:49 PM - by Superchop 7

This is from Popular Science.

A NEW HOPE
In a small room off the basement garage of a building on the outskirts of Stockholm, an entirely different kind of helmet test is taking place. Peter Halldin, a biomechanical engineer at the Royal Institute of Technology, is strapping a helmet onto a dummy head affixed to a custom drop-test rig. Rather than slamming a helmet into a stationary anvil, as in the NOCSAE test, Halldin’s rig drops it onto a pneumatic sled that moves horizontally. By calibrating the angle of the helmet, the height of the drop, and the speed of the sled, Halldin says he can more accurately re-create the angular forces that result in rotational acceleration than other labs can. Within the dummy head, nine accelerometers measure the linear force transmitted during impact; a computer nearby calculates rotational acceleration from that data.

Today Halldin is testing two ski helmets that are identical except for one thing: Inside one, a bright yellow layer of molded plastic attached with small rubber straps sits between the padding and the head. This is the Multidirectional Impact Protection System (MIPS), which is also the name of a company he co-founded. Halldin spends about half of his time as CTO of MIPS and the other as a faculty member of the Royal Institute.

The idea behind MIPS is simple: The plastic layer sits snugly on a player’s head beneath the padding. By allowing the head to float during an impact, MIPS can eliminate some of the rotational force before it makes its way to the brain.

First up in Halldin’s test is the non-MIPS helmet. Halldin flips on a high-speed camera and steps back from the impactor, ready to catch the helmet on its rebound. “Five, four, three, two, one…” There’s a loud clattering as the sled shoots forward at 22 feet per second and the helmet drops to... I absolutely love this kid's attitude and story. I love that he worked in a factory and has some knowledge of what real "working" life is like. I think this kid will succeed in a big, big way.
